The bookmaker`s coupon is proof that you have placed a bet and are entitled to collect the winning. In the case of an online bookmaker or a betting exchange, the coupon is an electronic entry in the bookmaker's database. The player can see it in the betting history, but some bookmakers do not display all the coupons. The history view can be limited for example to the last 3 months. Bookmakers should not remove any coupons from a player's account. According to industry standards, they can at most cancel a coupon and then make an appropriate annotation in the betting history.
Coupon contains mandatory information such as:
- Unique number.
- Date and time the bet was placed.
- Date and time of the event.
- Name of the events + selection of types + odds.
- Coupon type (single bet, system bet, etc.).
Based on the coupon number, you can quickly find the bet registered in the bookmaker's system. It is related to the barcode. The timing of the bet is crucial when considering the complaint. On its basis, it is possible to determine what the odds of other bookmakers were at a given moment, and thus how much the bookmaker's rate was different from the market average. Sometimes it turns out that a pre-match bet has been placed after the match has started, which will result in the bet being canceled. The name of the event in conjunction with the type selection should be clearly defined. If a bet is under/over, in the betting history the player should see above/below what line the bet was placed, and if it is a live bet, what result it was placed on. There are bookmakers' software that does not record such information and then it can only be determined based on the time the bet is placed.
If the price has changed after placing the bet, this will not affect the odds on the coupon. The odds may be adjusted by the bookmaker, even after the bet has been settled, if the bookmaker has made a specific mistake and stipulated such a possibility in the regulations.
Only events that are independent of each other can be combined within one coupon. For example, the type of winning in a match between Team A and Team B depends on the sum of goals scored in that match and you cannot bet on one coupon on these two types. If there are more events on the coupon, you can set their different configurations and the coupon always specifies what type of coupon has been included. It is possible to place a stake with an accuracy of 2 decimal places, but in practice most of the players round it to whole numbers.
There are 3 basic types of coupons:
- single coupon – contains only 1 event
- accumulator coupon (AKO, combo, combined coupon) – won when all events on the coupon are hit or canceled; the resultant rate is the product of the component rates
- system coupon (block coupon) – a combination of multiple accumulated coupons.
Most bets are settled within 15 minutes after the match ends. If the result is not readily available, this time is extended. Coupons placed in the live betting are settled on a regular basis. Bookmakers try to settle coupons as quickly as possible so that the customer can place another live bet. When betting on niche disciplines/leagues, where it is difficult to find the official result right after the end of the match, the settlement may take a few hours. If you have an official result in advance and you want to speed up the settlement process, you can inform the bookmaker about the result with the source.
